Grolsch celebrates 700 years of Enschede with special anniversary beer: Grolsch Feestweizen

7 May 2025

In 2025, the city of Enschede marks its 700th anniversary, and long-time local brewer Grolsch – deeply rooted in the city’s history – is celebrating in style. To honour this milestone, the brewery has launched an exclusive beer: Grolsch Feestweizen.

Grolsch Master Brewer Marc Janssen is thrilled with the new beer, an ode to the city where he was born: "Grolsch Feestweizen is a festive twist on Grolsch Weizen, a beer that has been voted the best in the world on several occasions." We used a different hop variety than in our classic Weizen, giving the Feestweizen a refreshing taste and a delicate aroma of green apples. The signature Weizen notes of clove and banana are still clearly present too. The result is an accessible, delicious Weizen with 5.8% ABV.

 Limited availability
Beer lovers can taste the Grolsch Feestweizen at the Red Roots Festival in Enschede on 30 and 31 May, co-sponsored by Grolsch. The beer will be served at various Enschede bars and eateries and will be sold in the iconic brown swing-top bottle at Berendsen liquor store and via the Grolsch website. Stock is limited: so when it's gone, it's gone!

 QR code beer mats
In addition to the special beer, Grolsch is also releasing anniversary beer mats that can be found in pubs serving Grolsch on tap. Each beer mat features a QR code that links to the full programme of Enschede 700.

Grolsch invites everyone to toast 700 years of Enschede together – with a glass of Feestweizen in hand.
