Our Vision and Ambitions
In 2009, Grolsch achieved a reuse rate of 99.7 per cent of its
by-products and waste. Furthermore, in that year we produced no
more than 0.5 kg of recyclable waste per hectolitre of beer. These
are impressive figures, but we are planning on going even further!
Grolsch is going to focus on further reducing the volume of
packaging material, on reusing packaging, recycling materials and
on using environmentally-friendly, sustainable and light-weight
packaging materials. But naturally we will also be looking at
filling lines, as we want to cut down packaging losses even
further.
Our Activities
Grolsch is undertaking a variety of initiatives and activities
aimed at making our use of packaging materials even more
sustainable:
- Reducing the quantity of glass and materials used for the green
swing-top bottle: making the bottles from recycled glass and the
crates from material that can be recycled many times over. This
means bottles that are significantly lighter than the old brown
bottle, and a 7% reduction compared with the old swing-top bottle
crate;
- Reusing 99% of by-products and waste;
- Drawing up a Life-cycle Analysis for all packaging, to
establish its impact on the environment;
- A returns system for bottles/crates;
- Economical use of raw materials, consumables and packaging
materials.
