Our Vision and Ambitions
Grolsch is a substantial energy user, so we believe that we need to
make a contribution to alleviating the harmful consequences of the
Greenhouse Effect.
The demonstrable change in the climate caused by man, coupled with
the long-term prospect of fossil fuel shortages and the resulting
price implications, are all important reasons for Grolsch to
substantially improve its energy efficiency and make sharp cuts in
CO2 emissions. Grolsch's target for 2015 is to cut energy use by
approximately 35% compared with 2005 levels. In concrete terms,
this means reducing energy use from 136.1MJ/hl in 2005
to 90.1MJ/hl in 2015.
The adverse environmental impact of electricity generation has also
prompted Grolsch to prioritise reducing its electricity use.
Furthermore, Grolsch is working actively to put residual heat from
neighbouring businesses to good use at the brewery.
Our Activities
At Grolsch we are undertaking a variety of initiatives and
activities to reduce energy use:
- A feasibility study on the possibilities of receiving a heat
supply from Twence, through Essent's combined heat and power
station;
- Projects for improving energy-efficiency in the supply chain
(production and filling);
- Optimising heating and lighting at our premises;
- Encouraging careful use of energy by employees;
- The KWA global benchmark for energy use, based on a study of
150 breweries undertaken every four years, has placed us in the top
10% of firms.
